Write about a time when you realized that your perception of a person or group was based on stereotypes. How did this realization affect your behavior or beliefs? What steps did you take to change your perceptions?

Everyone in America has a perception of other countries that is wrong if they have never been there. It is hard for us to imagine what other places could look like, especially if we are given the same pictures and information over and over, and that is going to be what you see that place as. You only know what you have been told or seen. If you want to get the full picture or make assumptions about another place, you have to actually go there and see what happens. In particular, people in America like to belive we have the best country, and I do not think that is true. I want to see what other countries there are.  Today in class, we used a random generator and got into groups of four and chose a culture to discuss the stereotypes of. We then got to work on a powerpoint, dividing up who was doing what in the group.

Write a blog post reflecting on a time when you or someone you know was misunderstood because of a single story. How can limiting ourselves to one perspective be harmful? What can we do to make sure we see people and cultures more fully?

I think we all have assumptions about each other, which are never the whole truth, so in a way, we all see each other in a single view when we don't actually know everything about each other to assume or judge. You base a person on what you see and not what is actually going on through their head. I have a naturally mad resting face so when I am not smiling it is assumed I am a mean person,, in my mind I am normally wondering what that person thinks of me. You never know the full story with anyone and should not judge.

Discuss how mastering precise vocabulary can impact your daily communication and academic success.

More precise vocabulary can help you express your thoughts clearly and reduce misunderstanding. I also think including bigger words that some people might not understand makes you sound smarter. It would definitely be useful in arguments when trying to make a point or discredit someone else`s point. Knowing you're using the correct word can not only make you sound smarter but feel smarter and the more you learn the more you can start including into your vocabulary. In school work you can use the words on other class assignments for different classes and impress teachers. The same things with jobs and making yourself seem more educational with using less average words. Today in class we did lesson 14 vocabulary writing down sentences for all 15 vocab words having to do with them, them using the words we just learned to do exercises 3 and 4.

oday’s article discussed how more people are choosing to live in the suburbs rather than in the city. When you become an adult, which lifestyle do you think you would prefer—city life or suburban life? Choose one and explain your reasons clearly.

When I am an adult who is looking for a place to live long term and start a family I would look in neighborhoods outside of a major city in the outskirts. I would be close to a lot of school districts and not so so in the middle of now where. Around my house would not be as busy because it would not be inside the city but we still have easy access. When I am not living on a college campus I would want to live in a city in an apartment for a little just to see how it would be. But I would not want that to be my permanant home or long term home for a family. I feel like citites are not as safe and not as peacful.

Based on the two informational passages that you've read thus far this week, write about how you will personally strive to avoid student loan debt?

I would pick a cheaper in-state college to ensure I would not have to pay as much and apply to as many scholarships as possible.  I am grateful and blessed to have parents who set up a college savings fund for me. I would also plan to work part-time through college trying to save up to pay it off. Also try and get a job with a starting high salary so I could make more money quickly. Going to the schools that are harder to get into often cost more but you end up getting the same degree with larger classes, so I would prefer to go to a cheaper college.

Choose a vocabulary word that resonates with you personally. Write a blog post explaining why this word is significant to you, including any personal memories or experiences that link you to the word.

I kind of liked the word " non sequitur" because I like the way it sounds and it is an interesting word. It means something that does not follow logic and I feel like it could be a good insult. Like if you called someone "non sequiter" they would have no idea what you are talking about proving your point further. I like unique words and I have never heard of this word before today I was surprised at the meaning, and it is a word I can now use in everyday life. Today in class we did vocabulary lesson number 13 and then filled in some blanks having to do with the vocab words we had been given. We then read a short passage and answered reading response questions.

Write about a time when your failure was necessary for your growth. Examples of failures could be failing a major exam, failure to make a team, failure in a relationship, etc.

When I was in the 8th grade, I failed my first class. It was a math class, and it was completely my fault. This was during COVID and I decided I was just not going to do our final project because I did not feel like it. Because this was during covid, all the rules for schoolwork where less strict and I thought it would not matter. That semester ended and I thought I had gotten away with it, and my parents did not know. Halfway through the summer, they got a call informing them I had not passed my math class, which taught me that you will never completely get away with anything, and it is just better to tell the truth. Today in class we finished our yellow wallpaper discussion questions as a review for our test on Friday.

In both texts that you read, the line between reality and imagination blurs—the narrator sees a woman in the wallpaper, while Dickinson’s speaker feels their own funeral happening in their mind. Have you ever had an experience where stress, fear, or emotions made something feel distorted or unreal? How did you ground yourself in reality again?

I have always suffered with high anxiety since middle school, going back in fourth through the years with my mental health. My junior year was really, really bad and the only thing that really helped me get over it was going on medication for anxiety, depression and panic attacks. The panic attack medicine was the biggest help because I was suffering through them multiple times a week.  I really liked the poems we have been reading and that you can have your own thoughts about what they mean to you. Today in  class we read a poem by Emily dickensin and then started answering questions on the yellow wall paper.

Choose a word from Vocabulary Lesson 12. In at least one paragraph, define the word in your own words and explain where you encountered it. Describe how understanding this word helps improve your communication or writing skills.

I chose the word miscreant. In my eyes, a miscreant is someone gross and evil at the same time. The word kind of reminds me of calling someone a rat. Something sneaky and thought of as gross, even though I do not really find rats gross. I`m not really sure how I have encountered it other than a word describing someone in a writing text. I am happy I now know this word so I can use it as an insult to people. The people I think of the most with this are those older men who know a girl is obviously younger and still hit on them. Today in class we did another vocabullary lesson.

Talk about a time when you felt like you were about to lose your mind. Answer in at least a paragraph.

Last year around this time I started birth control for the first time, and a month and a half later I genuinely thought I was going insane. It was a hard period in my life but that DEFINETLY amplified it. I felt like I had absolutely lost control of all my emotions. I was crying over everything, or mad, or just annoyed. Every day, when I woke up, I almost felt like a different person, and whatever mood/feelings I woke up with that day would be what I felt the whole day, changing every day. It was really inconsistent and scary so  I ended up getting off the birth control but I actually thought I was going insane and my parents were really scared. Today, in class, we read the Yellow Wallpaper, which deals with the ideas of mental health and gender roles. We took turns as a class reading the pages from the book, having discussions over important parts. We answerd what we had thought the story had ended because there was no clear meaning and wrote down somthing that annoyed us.

As we think about Vocabulary Monday, tell me what is your favorite word RIGHT NOW? Why is it your faovorite word and how often do you use it?

I do not know if I have an actual favorite word, but the word I say the most in a day is probably bro. It is a habit I should probably break but I say bro to EVERYONE. My boyfriend, who used to hate it, has now gotten used to it because it is a main part of my vocabulary. My dad and brothers make fun of me for it all the time and because I use it so much, they have brought it into their language as well. I talk very little in school, so I do not really say it at school.
